Demir Enerji is active in the field of sustainable energy, energy policy, carbon management and urban sustainability. It has carried out numerous projects in the development of Sustainable Energy Action Plan for Municipalities such as İzmir Metropolitan, Bursa Metropolitan, Antalya Metropolitan, Bornova (İzmir), Seferihisar (İzmir), Tepebaşı (Eskişehir), Maltepe (İstanbul) Municipalities, some of themsupported by thelocal Development Agencies. The projects entailed in depth analysis of urban development dynamics and prospects, taking account of urban migration, demographic and economic developments as well as changes in administrative responsibilities. Development of action plans in EE in the built environment, low carbon urban transport, local generation and supply of RE resources, waste and water management. In addition, overall integration of energy planning with urban built environment planning for low carbon futures, training and awareness raising activities for the local government, preparing a guideline to calculate GHG emissions in accordance with international standards. Demir Enerji became Turkish Demo site leader of ongoing CITYFIED project which aims to develop a replicable, systemic and integrated strategy to adapt European cities and urban ecosystems into the smart city of the future, focusing on reducing the energy demand and GHG emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy sources. Demir Enerji then led the Turkish partners in participating in REMOURBAN which became first demonstration project of Horizon 2020 SCC01.Demir is also country coordinator in the SCC02 Project Urban Green UP targeting implementation of NBS for urban solutions.

The excellent EU project experience of Demir allows it to understand and synergize sustainability goals of local governments in the context of the Turkish urban development. As a partner to local governments in the development of Sustainable Energy Action Plans, Demir has experience in scenarios for low carbon futures in the cities and the imperative to integrate urban physical planning and urban energy flows. The EU project management know-how is also a positive contribution to the seamless project flow. Demir’s network in the Turkish local governments allows for strong Replication impacts from the work of the Project.
