Municipality of Skopje
Skopje is the capital of the Republic of Macedonia with a population of over 600.000 inhabitants, and it covers an area of 1,818 km2. As the largest city in the Republic of Macedonia, it represents a political administrative, economic, cultural, educational and research centre. Skopje’s vision is being a developed cultural, historical, conference, and sporting-recreational tourist centre, inhabited by people of high ecological awareness.
The City of Skopje is a special Unit of Local self government regulated with a special Law, the Law on the City of Skopje. The City of Skopje provides for the organization and functioning of the Spatial and Urban planning, protection of the environment and nature, communal activities, local economic development, achievement and development of culture, education, sport, social welfare, organization of civil protection and fire fighting, as well as provides the performance of supervision.
