Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, Center for Research on Energy and EnvironmentalEconomics and Policy (UBIEFE) – Italy Università Bocconi is a university of international standing in business, economics and law. Its research projects are funded by national and supranational institutions.

IEFE – Centre for Research on Energy and Environmental Economics and Policy of Università Bocconi is the research centre which co-ordinates and conducts applied research in the following fields:
• energy economics, focusing on energy markets as well as on natural resources;
• environmental economics, focusing on environmental and climate policy, analysis and evaluation;
• economics of public utilities focusing on energy, water and waste services.
The main research areas regard multi-level policies for climate adaptation and mitigation, resource efficiency, energy efficiency, environment and competitiveness, regulatory, economic and voluntary instruments for the environment, smart and low carbon cities, climate finance, environmental information and public participation.
IEFE has working relations with several research organizations. It is member of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), it collaborates with UN-Habitat and it is partner of UNEP’s GI-REC initiative on Global Resource Efficient Cities. It is an associated member of the European Energy Research Alliance in the Smart Cities Joint Programme and member of the Urban Europe Research Alliance.

In the MAtchUP project, UBIEFE leads the analysis and identification of innovative business models and financial mechanisms for smart city solutions and is responsible for the economic and financial evaluation of the smart city transition that will take place within the project.
